1 Issue Keeps Cropping Up for Stellar Blade that May Prompt an Odd Spin-off as a Solution

Stellar Blade is almost out, and the world has been captivated by the futuristic setting, ambitious atmosphere, and bold character designs. Eve is the main protagonist and fans are already obsessed with her look but there is one character that rivals her beauty.

Directors Hyung-Tae Kim and Yoko Taro sat down and had a wholesome discussion about video games and how they pushed the best out of each other in their craft.

The South Korean director was visited by Yoko Taro, the director of Nier: Automata, and had a lovely conversation about how the Asian community is doing wonders for the gaming industry. Taro agrees with fans about how cute and attractive the characters are, the shopkeeper in particular.

Shops in RPGs often have a close-up shot of the shopkeeper, which I don’t like because I think it feels unnatural. Stellar Blade has a shot like that too, but the shopkeeper was so cute that I didn’t mind! Her cuteness felt more important than any design choices.

Kim also noticed the massive surge of praise for the design of the shopkeeper and sarcastically said it was a problem for the studio as it was taking away all the attention for Eve and could be the next face of the succeeding Shift Up project.

Actually, this has been a problem for us. Many users say that the girl at that shop is cuter than the main character… I guess we need to make her the main character in our next game.

The way a character looks is one way to attract fans and Kim knew what he was doing, even with the design for other characters that evokes a certain level of controversy. As long as it can reach the earmarks of the general public, the controversial character designs are a good publicity stunt.

Taro also gave the ultimate seal of approval by stating that Stellar Blade is better than his Nier: Automata. Kim extensively gave credit to Taro’s work as an inspiration and now he received the most validating review from the man who helped him find his drive in game development.

Shift Up recently released a free demo for PlayStation 5 users and the active daily user count doubles the amount of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo. Even the developers themselves were quite pleased with the positive reception and implored fans to go easy on the demo.

It is very fulfilling to listen to all the feedback and see how well the demo resonated with the gaming community. Nowadays, it is risky to release a brand new triple-A game in an industry that is overrun with live-service games and multiplayer titles with a paid battle pass.

Stellar Blade is filling in the creative void that players were clamoring for, and it seems like PlayStation has yet another winner.
