2 arrested, 1 ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect on the loose in MS Coast shooting, police say

Gulfport Police arrested two suspects and are searching for one other accused in a drive-by shooting on Monday at a Gulfport convenience store.

Police responded at 3:56 p.m. Monday to a shooting in the 13000 block of Dedeaux Road near a Big Boy convenience store, Lt. Jason DuCre said. Police said three suspects argued with a victim at the store, then followed him and fired toward his car as he fled.

Police arrested Jaevon Kenderick Weems, 21, on Tuesday. He faces one count of drive-by shooting in connection to the case.

Jayquarius Anthony Keyes, 22, also known as “Qdub,” later turned himself in, police said Tuesday morning. He faces one count of aggravated assault and one count of drive-by shooting,

Kaleb Zaches Anderson, 22, is wanted for one count of drive-by shooting. Police said Anderson is 5 foot 6 inches tall and 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is “considered armed and dangerous,” according to authorities.

The shooting started after a victim and the three suspects got into an argument, police said. Authorities said the suspects tried to “physically assault” the victim after he bought items and left the store.

Keyes fired multiple times and struck the victim’s car as he fled, authorities said. The suspects got in their car and followed the victim to 13100 block of Dedeaux Road where they kept firing, then fled, according to police.

No injuries were reported. Bullets also struck nearby buildings, and authorities found over 20 shell casings at the scene, DuCre said.

Authorities responded in June to the same area after four suspects exchanged gunfire in the parking lot of the Big Boy store, police said. Detectives in the area witnessed part of that shooting, police said, and the gunfire also hit an unmarked detective’s vehicle. Police charged four juveniles in the drive-by shooting case.

Police asked anyone with information on Monday’s shooting to contact the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
