2 Months after Release, Space Marine 2 is Being Blasted for the Most Annoying Tyranid Weapon

It’s been two months since Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 hit the shelves. The game saw incredible success for the franchise and became the most-sold Warhammer game. It has had its ups and downs though with issues from balance changes to bugs and server problems. And now players are venting again.

While most fans are thrilled with the game’s scale and action, one particular enemy is receiving a lot of hate. The Spore Mine. These floating explosives are designed to inflict heavy damage when they explode. And that is exactly what they are doing to players. But it’s a bit too annoying.

Players Don’t Like Getting Exploded in Space Marine 2

Spore Mines are bio-weapons used by Tyranid biovores, programmed to drift toward any non-Tyranid and explode on contact. They come in 3 different types: Poison, Frag, and Bio-Acid. And each type deals a different kind of damage to the player.

But the problem is not just the damage they deal, it’s how they appear almost out of nowhere. Players have reported getting caught off-guard in the middle of intense melee combat. And in combination with the surprise, they even stagger you!

One user on Reddit even described the Spore Mines as “wretched abominations.” The player went on a tirade about their unpredictable spawning patterns and relentless explosions. It just makes it unfun.

The biggest complaint is that these mines can appear without any warning and explode right next to players, sometimes leading to instant death. Many argue that the mines’ placement feels unfair, especially in situations where players are already surrounded by enemies and have little room to dodge.

The stagger effect has been particularly annoying since it stops your own attacks. It’s even more annoying for controller players since the game’s auto lock targets enemies instead of the spawning spore. Some players think it might even be a bug with how annoying it is.

So Is It a Skill Issue or a Real Issue?

Despite the obvious annoying factor, other players see it as a necessary layer of strategic difficulty. For them, the mines create a higher-stakes environment, forcing players to stay alert and assess their surroundings constantly. But other players had some words for that argument.

For most players, it feels like an unfair element that cheapens the experience by introducing luck into what is otherwise a “go ham” hack and slash shooter. People just want to feel like the genetically modified giants they are playing and slay Tyranids. And Saber Interactive knows that.

In response to the troubles though, there are ways to deal with them. The key is distance: maintaining a safe space from the mines and using automatic weapons to destroy them before they get close. Rapid-fire guns like the Auto Bolt Rifle and Heavy Bolter can clear large groups of mines quickly.

Aside from that, players should be alert for the red aura notice that pops up right before an attack is launched at the player. Dodges in the game do provide invincibility frames, (I-Frame) so it’s relatively easy to spam dodges to stay safe.
