2024 Brownlow Medal: Harley Reid wins Goal of the Year in first AFL season
West Coast young gun Harley Reid has been won goal of the year for his incredible solo effort against Melbourne this year.
The first year star was nominated for the major he kicked in the first quarter of the Eagles’ upset win over Melbourne in round 10.
Starting at the centre bounce against Norm Smith medallist Christian Petracca, Reid collects the ball at the back of the centre circle before exploding forward.
Reid bursts away from Petracca, before taking three bounces and kicking the goal from just within the forward 50 to send the ball over the goal umpires’ head much to the delight of the 43,408 fans at Optus Stadium.
The teenage sensation beat out Collingwood star Nick Daicos, who had an incredible two nominations which were both finallists alongside Reid’s goal.
Daicos’ first nomination came against Gold Coast in round 16 when he had two possessions before getting on the end of a forward 50 handball, sidestepping a Suns’ defender and slotting an important major late in the final term.
The Magpies premiership star was also nominated for a similar solo effort to Reid, bursting through the MCG against Brisbane in round 23.
Getting the ball in transition at the centre square, Daicos shakes off a tackle from Lion Dayne Zorko, taking two bounces and leaving two Brisbane players in his wake to kick a big second quarter goal.
