2024 WA Young Person of the Year: Former Little Telethon Star Oliver Lim wins for his disability advocacy
A former Little Telethon Star has been named the 2024 WA Young Person of the Year for his passion in representing the voices of youngsters people with a disability.
Oliver Lim — who captivated hearts across WA as one of the faces of Telethon in 2021 — has the chronic autoimmune condition lupus which can damage the skin, hair, blood and brain.
As a Little Telethon Star, he raised more than $100,000 to help sick kids across the State.
And at a ceremony on Friday night, the now 17-year-old was named the WA Young Person of the Year for his passion representing young people living with a disability, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
He has also been involved with fundraising campaigns for MSK Australia, Arthritis and Osteoporosis WA, and the Youth Disability Advocacy Network.
Along with the award, Oliver will receive a $10,000 bursary to participate in youth-related events and activities across the State.
His road to helping others has not been easy as he has had to undergo multiple rounds of chemotherapy and more than 50 intravenous methylprednisolone infusions to stop his body from shutting down.

As a Little Telethon Star alongside Lucy Antipas, Oliver said it was a “wonderful experience of excitement”.
“I was thrust into a whirlwind of acts and performances. I loved every second of it,” he said.
“As a sick kid myself, I know what it’s like to be a medical mystery and I would like to know that I have helped other kids like me who have this condition.”
Oliver was among 12 young people recognised for their outstanding leadership and achievements.
Youth Minister Hannah Beazley congratulated the winners for making their communities better places for everyone to enjoy.
“On behalf of the Cook Government, I want to extend a big congratulations to the outstanding award winners and finalists for the 2024 WA Youth Awards,” she said.
“This year we received a record 155 nominations which is testament to the incredible achievements and passion of young people, and those who support them, across Western Australia.”
