3,000 Hours Was All It Took One Starfield Player to Figure Out Hidden Gameplay Mechanic, But We’re Not Sure Many Know It

There are a few players who have been consistently playing Starfield ever since its release in September of last year, finding a few new things. One player, after 3000 hours of gameplay, recently found a neat little trick that can prevent fall damage.

The user took to Reddit to share their discovery and also talk about how they’ve accumulated such an insane amount of playtime.

A Surprising Discovery After 3,000 Hours in Starfield

In Starfield, players often spend countless hours shipbuilding, doing quests, and exploring the thousands of planets with nothing to do.

One dedicated player, after an insane 3,000 hours of gameplay, found a hidden technique that many players are likely unaware of. The discovery is about the use of the left stick (LS) on the controller to prevent fall damage, and they shared it on r/Starfield in a now-deleted post.

While players have typically used various methods to mitigate fall damage, this technique apparently involves pulling backward on the LS while boosting as you descend, effectively breaking your fall and preventing any injury or damage. 

Despite this player’s incredible time investment, not everyone is convinced of the method’s usefulness. Some users jokingly commented on the amount of time spent discovering this mechanic.

One user suggested that just using the boost pack right before hitting the ground would nullify fall damage without the need for any specific stick movement, and this actually seems to be the right way to prevent the damage. Another user questioned the OP’s time commitment, to which they responded that much of the time was spent with the shipbuilder.

Injuries in Starfield can result from various sources, including fall damage and combat. To heal any fall-related injuries, like breaking your legs, visit a doctor in any of the major cities. 

How to Prevent Fall Damage in Starfield

Boost packs in Starfield serve as temporary jetpacks, allowing players to jump further or descend slowly. These packs can be found on certain wearable gear that is found in the game’s world.

Players activate boost packs by pressing and holding the jump button while in midair. However, to use boost packs, players must first invest at least one skill point in boost pack training in the tech tree. Further upgrades to this perk will make boost packs more efficient, regenerating quicker, and making it all that much better.

There are still ways to reduce fall damage without these boost packs. Spending skill points on the gymnastics perk in the physical skill tree can significantly decrease fall damage. This can be really helpful in certain situations if you’re out of boost pack charges.

Environmental factors also play a role in the amount of fall damage. For example, high-gravity planets like Akila increase fall damage, while low-gravity planets like Mars reduce it.

This means that on low-gravity planets, players can jump from higher heights with minimal risk of injury, sometimes not taking any fall damage by pretty much floating through the minimal gravity.

Consuming aid items or simply waiting for the character’s body to heal naturally can also work. Doctors can heal and remove all afflictions for a fee of 400 credits. Bethesda’s latest game does offer a wide range of consumable aid items to help with these injuries.
