Not the Player Count, but 1 Major Issue with Helldivers 2 is Now Being Pulled Apart

It wasn’t too long ago that Helldivers 2 captured the hearts and minds of everyone who enjoyed a good third-person co-op shooter. With over-the-top action and dialogue, the game was bringing in a concurrent player base well above 400,000.

Unfortunately, the great account-linking saga was the first major speed bump in the game’s progress. While it has since overcome the challenge, it hasn’t been able to achieve the same number of active players. This might be due to more technical reasons, as put forward by this Redditor.

No game is without its bugs and glitches. They are even more common in live-service titles, which receive periodic content updates. Along with updates, there are also constant patches and bug fixes. These updates are intended to make the gameplay experience smooth, but that is not always the case.

Frame rates in games may have become a more mainstream technical aspect with the new generation of consoles, but it has been a topic of discussion for a long time in PC gaming circles. Nowadays, a game that doesn’t hit a minimum of 90 FPS on PC is often criticized for being badly optimized.

It seems Helldivers 2 players are being robbed of a polished experience, as every update has knocked down the maximum frame rate possible for the title. Redditor throtic posted their complaints on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, expressing that while they love the game, they are unable to play it as it is highly unoptimized. This is despite having some impressive specs such as a 4070 Ti, an Intel 13th Gen 13700k, and 64 GB of DDR 5 RAM.

One reply states that the game seems to demand a lot from the CPU and thus can cause issues.

Another states that before the patches, they were hitting 120 FPS consistently, but after the patches, that has dropped to 40 to 60 FPS.

It seems Arrowhead needs to go back to the drawing board and rework its patches. The idea is for the patches to fix glitches, not throttle the games performance so severely.

Fans’ Criticism of Helldivers 2 Continues to Rise

It’s been a rough couple of months for Arrowhead Game Studios, and it doesn’t seem to be easing up anytime soon.

The team was recently criticized by the fans for the lack of value offered by their latest Warbond, Viper Commandos. Many felt Arrowhead was offering far too little compared to the previous Warbonds.

Since then, the studio has stated that it will take more time to release Warbonds. The previously stated schedule was every month, but even the players said this was an unrealistic standard. The extra time should also give Arrowhead more time to work on patch fixes.

Given the fast-paced gameplay of Helldivers 2, it makes sense why PC players would prefer a high frame rate. If Arrowhead wants to retain its active players, the studio needs to work on optimizing the game to ensure it runs smoothly.
