Heavy rain to return to mid-Michigan on Wednesday

We had a heavy burst of rain across the area this evening, with reports of 2-3 inches of precipitation falling in portions of Lansing and East Lansing in just one hour on Tuesday. This caused multiple road closures, with reports of several vehicles being damaged because of the flooding that occurred this evening.

We have seen a lull in precipitation this evening. But heavy rain is expected to return to the area tonight as the remnants of Beryl continue to move closer to mid-Michigan.

A flood watch remains in effect for the area through Wednesday evening, with the heaviest rain moving in around 11 p.m. and continuing into midday on Wednesday. 2-3 inches of additional rainfall will be possible across mid-Michigan. This heavy rainfall will lead to the potential for ponding of water or flooding overnight tonight and Wednesday.

In addition to the rain, winds will also increase throughout the day on Wednesday, with gusts up to 35-40 miles per hour possible across the area.

Rainfall and winds will taper off Wednesday evening, ending by 8 or 9 p.m. as the remnants of Beryl exit the area. High pressure will move in for Thursday and Friday, with drier and calmer conditions settling in across the area.

Our StormTracker 6 Weather Team will continue to monitor the potential for flooding across the area and will provide updates on-air and online. If you have any pictures of flooding in your area, please send them to us at wlns.com/share.
