E-Day Needs to Feature a Meaner, Nastier Marcus, Not What We Have Now

Microsoft surprised fans when it revealed that Gears of War: E-Day would be a prequel to the franchise. It will cover the first emergence of the Locust, when humans were still unprepared to face these terrifying creatures. As a result, many fans have various theories and suggestions about what should happen in this title.

For instance, a discussion arose on Reddit about how good the main character Marcus Fenix is, as he has made quite questionable decisions in the past but always ends up in a favorable light, unlike his son in the last two games. Perhaps this prequel should emphasize even more that he is a character with many nuances.

Although many fans were expecting to see a sixth installment of the saga, The Coalition decided to go in another direction and present Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel that will show us the origin of the conflict against the Locust.

However, this game will also explore how humans were unprepared for this deadly enemy. Another feature of this title is that it will once again use two well-known protagonists.

A Reddit discussion talks about how Marcus Fenix ended up in a much better position than his son when comparing the two parts of the franchise. One user asserts that The Coalition consistently scrutinized J.D.’s actions, significantly more so than Fenix’s in the first trilogy.

Anyone who follows the saga knows that in the first trilogy, the main character made quite questionable decisions regarding the story.

The third game of the original trilogy reveals Marcus Fenix’s father’s significant involvement in the arrival of the Locust, further complicating the plot and path of this hero.

Gears of War: E-Day has the potential to delve deeply into the direct relationship between this family and the arrival of these terrifying creatures. Players always want a character with depth in their development.

The Reddit discussion continued, and many users took the opportunity to list the mistakes of both protagonists and compare them to see who was more morally questionable.

Many of these users appear to place a higher value on J.D. Fenix due to the harsher judgment he received for his actions, even though they weren’t always negative. In the fifth installment, his peers are quite critical of this character.

The Coalition has a unique opportunity to develop these characters’ origins in a completely different way and show them from the beginning. Gears of War: E-Day is slated for release sometime in 2025.

The game will be available for PC and Xbox Series S/X using Unreal Engine 5. So far, Microsoft has not mentioned a specific date nor shown much more after their event. Fans are more than excited to try this game.
