Moses injury sours Origin moment of reckoning

Mitchell Moses played a hero’s hand then tore his biceps on a night the NSW half proved he was built for State of Origin.

The Parramatta playmaker is likely out for the rest of the season if his fears of a ruptured biceps suffered in the late stages of Wednesday’s victory at Suncorp Stadium are confirmed.

Moses won a third-straight Origin in his fifth appearance for the Blues, becoming just the third NSW halfback to win a decider in Brisbane.

He finished the game on the sidelines clutching his right arm and indicating he had ruptured the muscle, after earlier breaking the line to score the match-sealing try.

If a complete tendon rupture is confirmed it would require surgery and a three-to-four month recovery window.

“I’d spoken to Mitch prior to the series – you get to know them – I do like Mitch and his personality,” Blues coach Michael Maguire said.

“It suits the arena; you’ve got to have a lot of confidence about your own game.

“That’s what he brought to the game, and his kick is very handy.

“That’s what Origin is about … and it was really nice to see him break the game open there.

“He was patient; the game was a dog fight and it was going to be a moment that opened the game up and Mitch found that.”
