Nintendo updates its Japanese site’s domain

Nintendo is dashing its old Nintendo.co.jp to be more inline with other divisions of the Japanese game maker. The domain won’t go the way of the wind, of course, though, it’ll just redirect those so used to the old domain.

Over on Twitter (via Perfectly Nintendo), Nintendo announced the move, with it starting just yesterday. It didn’t go into details why this change is happening outside of “server environment improvements,” but that could mean anything. Not everything is changing over to this new domain, though, but it’s still not clear what is staying the same at this moment. We assume it’s largely the corporate side of things that will remain housed on the old domain.

As pointed out by Perfectly Nintnedo, though, this may not come as a shock to more observant fans that noticed it’s been starting to shy away from the ol’ co.jp domain for a while now. Its Japanese eShop page, for example has been using the global domain for some time and games like Another Code: Recollection used this new domain before the change.

Largely, the only some regions are using the global domain, mostly those under control of Nintendo of America as well as some East Asia regions, too. We’re sure more domain shakeups are coming, but we’ll have to wait and see.

More Smash Jump: Check out Daniel’s selection of Game Boy gems, Baldur’s Gate 3 has soared passed 10 million sales, and Peacemaker is entering the Mortal Kombat 1 ring.
