AFL Watch: South West players shine in mixed weekend of results for WA teams

The South West’s great football talent was on show at the weekend in round 19 of the AFL season.

Closing in on his 50th game for the club, Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault product Brady Hough continued his good season for the West Coast Eagles against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

Despite his team going down 17.11 (113) to 6.5 (41), Hough managed 13 kicks, his 2024 season highest.

The Harvey-raised defender managed a total of 22 disposals, his best result since the Eagles’ round 10 clash against Melbourne.

Fellow West Coast star and former Dunsborough Sharks player Reuben Ginbey also notched up one of his best games for the year.

The midfielder had 22 disposals, equalling his result in the Eagles’ round two contest against GWS.

The effort included 10 kicks and 12 handballs.

It was Ginbey and Hough’s second match under former Harvey Bulls player Jarrad Schofield, who will coach the side for the rest of the year after the sacking of 2018 premiership coach Adam Simpson.

The circumstances were more celebratory for Busselton’s Jye Amiss on Sunday as Fremantle defeated Melbourne 17.14 (116) to 10.6 (66) at Optus Stadium.

Amiss kicked four of the side’s 17 goals, his most in the past six rounds.

The key forward also managed six kicks and two handballs.

Fremantle and West Coast will face off against each other on Saturday in the western derby.
