Player First Games is now under Warner Bros. Games

MultiVersus developer Player First Games has — unsurprisingly — been acquired by Warner Bros. Games after the release full release of the Warner Bros.-tied Smash-like. The game continues to be trekking along with Samurai Jack and a new game mode heading our way, poised to spice the game up.

Per Veriety, which acquired a press release from Warner Bros. Discovery, the multimedia powerhouse purchased the studio for an undisclosed sum. Warner Bros. Games head, David Haddad, mentions its long history working working with the California-based studio to launch MultiVersus, which re-released back in May after closing down to focus on its full release after a beta period in 2022.

“We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”

Established in 2019, Player First Games was an indie studio with nothing under its belt outside of being home of some industry vets. It was tapped to develop a free-to-play Smash-like game featuring Warner Bros. IPs. With the help of Warner Bros. Games San Diego, PFG launched the game in early access before going silent.

In May it re-launched and has fared only fine reviews and — at least on Steam — a rather middle-of-the-road player base compared to what it could’ve been. It’s possible with the acquisition, it might get more attention, but only time will tell.
