Some Red Dead Redemption 2 Players Are Only Now Finding Out About the Game’s Best Easter Egg 6 Years On

Red Dead Redemption 2, the epic open-world game from Rockstar, has been out for six years now. But some players are still uncovering hidden easter eggs and other details within its absolutely vast landscape.

Recently, a Reddit user shared an encounter with a bizarre creature in the game, sparking discussions among fans. This creature, known as “manbearpig,” has ties to both the game’s historical setting and possibly to a pop culture reference as well.

So, what exactly is the manbearpig? The term might sound familiar to fans of the TV show South Park, where it was a fictional creature that was half man, half bear, and half pig. However, in the context of Red Dead Redemption 2, this creature has a different origin.

It goes back to a peculiar practice from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where hucksters would stitch together parts of different animals and present them as newly discovered species. This practice, common from the 1880s to the 1940s, was a way for these con artists to make money and draw crowds. Hence, this seems to be more of a historical reference than a pop culture one.

Many players were also surprised that they hadn’t encountered or heard of this easter egg before, even after years of playing the game, and were surprised to find out about it just now.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, players can encounter the creature in a remote cabin in the game’s wilderness near Van Horn. This easter egg is not just a random reference but a nod to those bizarre historical practices. The cabin itself is a creepy place, filled with various animal parts stitched together, which has creeped out plenty of players when they first discovered it.

The discovery of the manbearpig reference has fascinated many players, all the way back in 2018. The Reddit user who shared their experience described the moment they were chased by the creature, which led to a flurry of comments and discussions and this is actually something new. The creature usually stays at one place and isnt mobile, so this might be a bug or a glitch.

The game is known for its rich details and many hidden secrets. Red Dead 2’s world is vast, with countless nooks and crannies to explore, and it’s clear that there are still many secrets left to be discovered since the developers have stated as much in the past.

As more players share their discoveries, the community around Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to thrive. The game still gets an average of 40k peak players weekly just on Steam itself.

The game’s ability to surprise and engage players as a single-player game that received no DLC or updates since release just shows the high quality of a game that is widely considered to be one of the greatest ever made.
