Released last week, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is the latest semi-open “Soulslite” title that challenges gamers with eliminating tons of gods in an eclectic fantasy setting. It’s a project by A44 Games, a New Zealand-based studio that made waves in the gaming industry with its ARPG, Ashen.

While the game undoubtedly brings something new to the table, it’s been criticized by critics and fans alike for lacking depth, horrendous performance issues, and awful mechanics. However, now, players feel the game clearly had some kind of funding issues, as it couldn’t put together bosses who don’t feel like trash.

Gamers Feel Flintlock Bosses Lack a Soul and Are Straight Up Trash

When gamers have memories of experiencing their favorite games, they more often than not reminisce about the challenging boss fights or narratives that spoke to them. While that’s certainly true for games such as Elden Ring and Metal Gear, the same can’t be said for Flintlock.

Uru The Ravager is said to be one of the most dangerous gods in the world of Flintlock. He’s a selfish schemer and stands as the most powerful being Above or Below. While you would typically expect such a hyped boss to be incredibly challenging to deal with, players feel he gives one of the worst fights in the entire game.

The core issue of Uru’s boss fight is that once you beat him, you’ll move to a new area and then face off against his second and third phases. These fights just aren’t interesting enough and feel completely one-sided, cheesy, and incredibly lame.

After you beat Uru’s first phase, the game will take away half of your move sets for half of the second phase. It seems like players who spend the whole game mastering an already very limited movement are punished for an apparent reason.

It’s mind-boggling how developers had to rely on such gimmicks for such an anticipated boss of the game. Clearly, the studio ran out of funds and resources and had to cut out on features that could’ve helped the Uru feel more of a genuine challenge.

Let’s hope that with the post-launch content for the game, A44 Games completely revamps Uru and also gives New Game+ so we can experience the boss in its full glory.

Gamers Want A44 Games to Fix Flintlock Issues

It’s not only the lackluster boss fights and game features; the entire gaming community is frustrated with Flintlock‘s severe technical issues, which have jeopardized the experience for everyone.

On various social media channels, players have complained about the title crashing out of nowhere without any signs of error or warning. No one would’ve ever thought that Xbox Game Pass would feature such a half-baked game where even basic mechanics feel awful and don’t keep up with other modern titles.

If A44 Games truly wants to reach the success levels of Ashen with this title, they clearly need to work immediately on polishing the game and delivering updates that lure gamers. If that’s neglected, the future isn’t looking too bright for the game and the studio.
