Marvel Games Will Wish They Had Their Own Robert Downey Jr as Fans Turn on EA’s Iron Man Game

Robert Downey Jr. is a prolific actor renowned for his time with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and for pioneering the growth of the superhero genre. Oppenheimer gave the actor the performance he needed to win him an Oscar and is heading back to his roots for the next exciting chapter of the Multiverse Saga.

The entertainment industry is now tethered after the lines between live-action movies and video games started to blur. Members of the gaming community are hardcore fans of the films and have realistically measured their expectations for the upcoming project from Motive Studio and Electronic Arts.

Robert Downey Jr Has Set the Bar a Little Too High

Marvel Games is slowly finding its footing in the game industry after the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which inadvertently encouraged game developers to create a shared universe in the form of video games.

San Diego Comic-Con was the perfect opportunity to showcase the redesigned logo of Marvel Games and announce Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom.

The gaming community was looking forward to a handful of projects that were in active development and had high expectations for some of them. Fans were confident that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be a worthy contender for Game of the Year; unfortunately, the sequel fell a little short, and this does not bode well for future projects.

NetEase Games was in attendance during the San Diego Comic-Con and shared new details, like the appearance of Doctor Doom in Marvel Rivals. The iconic supervillain is about to get significantly more popular and will further complicate things for game developers to bring this character to life in another format.

The gaming community was surprised to see EA pull the plug on The Mandalorian video game from Respawn Entertainment in favor of focusing on Marvel’s Iron Man with Motive Studio. Fans were eager to see this new Star Wars project but will have to settle for an original take on the character, but some are now sceptical of the game’s quality.

It is hard to compete with an adaptation that has easier access for the casual audience; not everyone is willing to experience an interactive story for hours with a controller at hand. This video game adaptation will allow other creatives to make something original with a character beloved in films.

Insomniac Games set the bar high after Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, and not everyone was satisfied with the sequel. It is evident that there is a drastic decline in quality in crafting a superhero project in a much more interactive format like video games, and with the failure of Marvel’s Avengers, fans are right to be sceptical.

Comparisons will be immediately drawn down to the most minute detail. While it remains unknown who will portray Tony Stark in the game, the actor will be plagued with hateful words from fans who are unhappy about how another actor brings Iron Man to life.

Motive Studio understands the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Robert Downey Jr.’s legacy and shouldn’t be intimidated. This is an opportunity to show a different side to the beloved Avenger.
