24 NSW firefighters battle blaze on Parramatta Rd
Six fire trucks and 24 firefighters were deployed to battle a shop blaze on one of Australia’s busiest city thoroughfares on Monday that disrupted traffic flows from about 1pm.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman told NewsWire the crews raced to the fire on Parramatta Rd at 1.10pm.
When the firefighters arrived, smoke was coming out of the shop and the crews put on airsets and entered the building to put out the fire.
The firefighters “quickly extinguished” the blaze, the spokesman said.

Eight people were evacuated from a unit above the shop and the two adjoining premises, he added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Parramatta Rd, a major thoroughfare linking the centre of the city to its western districts, was temporarily shut in both directions as the firefighters fought the blaze.
Live Traffic NSW shows a single westbound lane remained closed as of 2.21pm.
