Move-in days for MU, Columbia and Stephens colleges are coming. What to expect

The school year is fast approaching for students at public schools in Boone County. But those are not the the only education providers locally. There also are the University of Missouri, Columbia College and Stephens College, which all will have move-in events as new and returning students get oriented on their respective campuses.

This is what the Columbia community and incoming students and families can expect.

University of Missouri

Students should start arriving to the MU campus Aug. 10. This is a smaller number than when the main crush of students arrive Aug. 14-15. The groups moving to campus early are those seeking Panhellenic Association recruitment, Marching Mizzou and some student leadership positions.

On the main move-in days, the traffic flow is shifted to and around campus “to accommodate students, families and their vehicles, and it takes droves of volunteers from both campus and community to get everyone in,” said Christopher Ave, MU director of news and information in a message to the Tribune.

Move-in days also are part of “Welcome Week” events, including the First Roar 8-10 p.m. Aug. 15, which is the official kickoff event for Welcome Week and the new academic year.

The first day of classes for MU is Aug. 19.

Columbia College

Columbia College starts its move-in day noon Aug. 21.

Four days of orientation precede the first day of classes Aug. 26, per the college’s academic calendar. Further move-in and orientation information was not readily available through the college website.

Stephens College

Students attending Stephens College will start to move to campus Aug. 13, when new and returning soccer and volleyball players arrive.

Remaining students will move in Aug. 23 and orientation activities will take place from that date through Aug. 25. The annual crossing the bridge ceremony will take place 5:15 p.m. Aug. 23.

Welcome week is Aug. 26-30 and students will receive an email with a schedule of available activities.
