The First Descendant’s Director Confirms the Game Won’t Make the Same Mistake Other Looter Shooters Do

Gamers have not been shy about sharing their complaints with The First Descendant. The squad-based hero shooter can be a fun and unique experience that allows players to engage in fast-paced teamwork if the developers can address the many issues plaguing the game.

NEXON Games is well aware of these complaints and has already worked to release a patch recently. There is more work to be done, but a recent interview has shown that the developer is approaching this title with a mindset that is very different from other live-service looter shooters on the market.

NEXON to Implement Contextual Events in The First Descendant

Special events in live-service titles are a way to get more people to tune in to the game, even if for a specific amount of time. These events usually last a weekend or span the entire week to ensure the maximum number of players tune in. While these events can be fun, they are not always super relevant, and this is an issue The First Descendant wishes to avoid.

The game has been on the market for over 10 days now, so no one expects the developer to release an event just yet. While it might help quell some complaints about missions being formulaic and repetitive, it would also take a lot for the developers to create and launch an entire event while trying to fix the many issues fans are pointing out. Additionally, NEXON doesn’t want The First Descendant events to feel out of place.

In an interview with GodisaGeek Lee Beom-jun, Producer at NEXON Games, and Minseok Joo, Director of The First Descendant, spoke at length about their influences, creation process, and plans for the looter shooter. When asked about upcoming events, Minseok Joo was clear that the team wanted to make sure they followed a theme.

[…] We would prefer to prepare events that fit the atmosphere of the game rather than events like Valentine’s Day or Halloween.

There are many live-service games on the market that host events that don’t match the ongoing season in reality. An example of this is Helldivers 2 releasing the Polar Patriots Warbond in the middle of the spring season, while it would have been more suitable for the winter months.

The developer may have the right intentions in mind when creating the content roadmap, but many issues need to be fixed in the title. One of these is random teleportation, which interrupts The First Descendant players’ outpost attempt by transporting them to the very outpost they were attempting!

There is also a litany of technical issues, glitches, and bugs that need to be ironed out to make the gameplay a smooth experience. Currently, the title is not doing so well ratings-wise, and NEXON can only change this by rigorously improving the quality of its product.

Before the team is ready to introduce new The First Descendant characters, it should be sure the game is functioning as smoothly as possible. Without improving patches, the game might not be popular enough by the time the first event is released!
