Deadpool 3 Is Making More Money Than Avatar: The Way Of Water So Far

Deadpool & Wolverine continues to soar at the box office, and the film is expected to pass a major milestone today, July 30. The movie should reach $500 million globally as of today, Deadline reported, and it’s even pacing ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water so far.

The three-day opening weekend for Deadpool & Wolverine saw the film earn $444.1 million, including $211 million from North America alone. The movie continued to rake in money on Monday, bringing the worldwide total for Deadpool & Wolverine to $496.3 million. Given that, Deadpool & Wolverine needs just a few more million today, July 30, to surpass $500 million worldwide.

As another point of comparison, Deadpool & Wolverine’s $444.1 million opening was bigger than Avatar: The Way of Water ($439 million), making it the biggest worldwide opening for any movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home back in 2021 ($587.2 million).

No one expects Deadpool & Wolverine to keep up pace with Avatar: The Way of Water, however, as that film had extremely long legs and ended its theatrical run with $2.32 billion to rank No. 3 all time.

Something that’s helping Deadpool & Wolverine globally is how the movie debuted in China alongside other international markets. The 2016 Deadpool never came to China and Deadpool 2 was only released in China after it received a number of cuts and the new title of Deadpool 2: I Love My Family.

For Deadpool & Wolverine, China ($27.6 million) is the movie’s biggest international market, ahead of the UK ($25 million), Mexico ($21.5 million), Australia ($14.1 million), Brazil ($10.8 million), and India ($10.6 million).

For more, check out GameSpot’s Deadpool & Wolverine review, which scored the film a 4/10. “The third act is utterly baffling and feels like a bunch of stuff was cut, and there are ultimately no meaningful plot connections to the MCU,” reviewer Phil Owen said. “Standard stuff for the last five years of this franchise, and a major disappointment for the only MCU movie on the 2024 calendar.”
