Inquiry to grill current and former PwC heads over tax scandal

Current and former bosses of consultancy giant PwC will face tough questions from a parliamentary committee on Friday over the fallout from the leaking of government tax plans to major corporations.

Corporations and Financial Services Committee chair Senator Deborah O’Neill says she hopes the hearing “will shed further light” on PwC’s wrongdoing.

The scandal was disclosed in 2022 when ex-PwC partner Peter-John Collins, a key architect of legislation targeting tax-dodging multinationals, had his tax licence suspended for integrity breaches.

Further probes revealed the firm used Mr Collins’ insider knowledge to lure in corporate clients, advising them on taxation in Australia.

“It is appropriate that many of those who are connected to the PwC tax leaks scandal, through their past or current roles, have taken up the invitation to appear and to give evidence to the committee,” Senator O’Neill said.

“I look forward to their evidence, and I hope that it will shed further light on the circumstances of the misbehaviour previously documented by the work of the parliament.”

PwC chief executive Kevin Burrowes, as well as former bosses Luke Sayers and Tom Seymour, will front the hearing.

The hearing begins at 8am.
