Hooks all set for game 150 in the GFL this weekend against Roos

Like father, like son.

Boulder’s Jorden Hooks will on Saturday emulate the deeds of his father, Adrian, and earn club life membership when he lines up for his 150th senior game in the Goldfields Football League against Kalgoorlie.

Nine years after being crowned the GFL’s fairest-and-best colts player, Hooks chalks-up the latest milestone in a stellar career that includes the Tigers’ 2016 and 2023 premierships.

Hooks on Friday said it was an honour to follow in the footsteps of his father to the milestone and beyond after being born into the club’s ranks and graduating all the way from the under-10 side.

Adrian Hooks was honoured in 2008 as the club’s 86th life member and in 2009 was the Tigers’ senior coach.

“It (200 games) isn’t necessarily a goal of mine,” Jorden Hooks said.

“I’m 26 now and if I can keep playing until then, I definitely will.”

Hooks said there was a degree of pressure early in his senior career to live up to the deeds of his well-known father, but he had long since committed to forging his own path.

“There was a little bit of pressure at first,” he said.

“But since then it’s mainly been about me separating myself a bit from dad because we’re two different players (and) I try and do my own thing.”

Boulder goes into Saturday’s clash hoping to consolidate third place at the expense of Kalgoorlie with a home first semi-final up for grabs.

“In our case, the side is very young with a bunch of kids coming in who haven’t played more than five games at league level,” Hooks said.

“But I think the sky’s the limit for us, once we get our best side in around those kids because our performances will go right up.

“It’s pretty much a whole new side (in 2024) with maybe seven, off the top of my head, who’ve stayed on from last year’s premiership side.

“It means we’re probably coming from a long way back, but each of the new boys have fitted in well and they all seem pretty keen to hang around for the next couple of years.

“Hopefully, success is coming.”
