Helldivers 2 Fans Won’t Let Arrowhead Forgot the Biggest Controversy of 2024 “We need to stop pretending that this is just going to be left behind”

Helldivers 2 was a massive triumph, and like every other successful video game, it had its fair share of ups and downs. The memory of the gaming community should not be trifled with, and not everyone is as forgiving as others, especially with the previous blunder caused by the publisher.

The game was a massive success, and Sony Interactive Entertainment decided to share it with the players on the PC platform and make the most of the player count. PlayStation 5 and PC players enjoyed the game before the publisher inadvertently sabotaged it by enforcing an unnecessary mandate.

Helldivers 2 Players Have Yet to Move on From the Previous PlayStation Network Fiasco

Sony Interactive Entertainment made the right call to team up and support the developers with the ambitious Helldivers sequel. Unfortunately, it did not take long for the publishers to shoot the developers in the leg after mandating all PC players to link their Steam accounts with their PlayStation Network accounts, which opened a can of worms.

Director Johan Pilestedt was devastated by everything that transpired in the past few months and how one decision forced the entire gaming community to turn their backs on the developers and the game. Not everyone was a fan of the decision and other players retaliated by review bombing Helldivers 2 and the original game.

Fortunately, Sony caved in after seeing the backlash and retracted its previous mandate. 177 regions do not support the PlayStation Network and the game abruptly pulled out from all digital storefronts, leaving players abandoned rather than supported. The gaming community stood firm and wanted to play with their friends with or without linking their accounts.

Pilestedt did not lose hope and made it his mission to restore the game’s honor and give it back to every player, regardless of where they reside. Not everyone has the same background, and it is wholesome to see players thinking of their fellow Helldivers who were affected by this problem, which shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place.

Sony had good intentions to moderate both the PC and PlayStation 5 communities; however, the company had the wrong approach, and the gaming community did not appreciate the hostility and passive aggressiveness. The game had no trouble catering to players who live in different parts of the world and had a great thing going.

The active daily player count has been dwindling since then, and the game developers have yet to recover from the PSN controversy, something the studio had no say in or control over. Arrowhead Game Studios and director Johan Pilestedt will have to shake it off and do what they can to regain the favor and trust of the gaming community with quality and entertaining content.

The developers did not let this minor setback affect their plans and continued to support the live service project. The team’s resilience and dedication should be applauded, and it is a testament to helping fully realize Pilestedt’s creative vision.

Sony may have apologized for the inconvenience the PSN controversy has caused; however, the gaming community wants to see action. The game has not been reinstated in other countries, and it is time to stop pretending, call the company out, and force its hand to show real change.
