Todd Howard Will Be Pleased to Hear Starfield Excels in At Least One Area
Starfield was one of Bethesda’s worst releases in recent times. Despite being the first new IP from the studio in over 25 years, the game had an underwhelming response from fans.
The game was also hyped up as the console generation savior for Xbox. However, it failed in its quest to revive the platform, too. Despite its failures, the game did shine in one crucial aspect.
Starfield’s Accessibility, Despite Its Larger-Than-Life Sci-Fi Setting, Wasn’t Appreciated by a Player
The problems with Starfield were apparent from the beginning. The game’s world felt incredibly lifeless and empty. Moreover, the writing was sloppy and not gripping at all. However, it seems like the game did check some boxes for space RPG players.
In a dedicated post on the game’s subreddit, a player explained why they felt like the game was the most accessible in its genre. This is what the player said in the post:
Starfield is probably one of the most accessible sci-fi, “macro level”, life sim available on the market

The player makes a reasonable argument in the post and even clarifies that while the game isn’t the best or the most polished, it is the most accessible. This is how players reacted to the post on the game’s subreddit:

LIST (League of Independent Settlers) in the game was one of the additions that made the game incredibly accessible among fans. Some other fans also mentioned it in their comments:

While the post on Reddit got immense traction and people seemed to agree that the game was accessible, a metric released during the game launch proved otherwise.
Even the Accessibility of Starfield Is Debatable Due to One Statistic
For a game as vast as this, there are usually tutorials and prologues to ease players into the game. However, when the game launched, it seemed like players were quick to jump ship, so much so that 25% of the players didn’t even make it past the game’s tutorial.
The site that reported the statistic now reports that 100% of recorded players have completed it. But all of this shows that despite the game being given some credit in mid-2024, almost a year after its launch, Bethesda lived up to its infamy of releasing titles in an unpolished state at launch.
While the upcoming Shattered Space expansion for the game looks promising, it is still uncertain if the game will be able to redeem itself. That is because of the negative word-of-mouth surrounding the title.
What do you think will be the game’s fate, especially after the Shattered Space expansion’s release? Do you think it will bounce back? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
