’Astounding’: Ferrari and Porsche hit nearly 90km/h more than speed limit in alleged street race
A Ferrari and Porsche allegedly hit speeds nearly 90km/h more than than the limit in a reckless driving incident, “astounding” police.
Police were alerted to a red Ferrari 488 Spider and a blue Porsche 911 driving recklessly near Sorrento in Western Australia about 9.30am on Sunday.
The two cars were later spotted by a Police Air Wing driving southbound on West Coast Drive towards Trigg.
Police will allege the cars raced each other from the intersection of Karrinyup Rd and West Coast Highway until they reached the traffic lights at the West Coast Highway and The Boulevard in City Beach, Perth.
The Ferrari allegedly clocked 133km/h in a 70km/h zone (63km/h over the speed limit), while the Porsche allegedly hit similar high speeds of 169km/h in an 80km/h zone (89km/h over the speed limit).

Police say a black Yamaha motorcycle joined the alleged race at the traffic lights before all vehicles came to a halt outside a restaurant on Challenger Parade, City Beach.
Road Policing Command Superintendent Mike Peters said driving a “high-performance vehicle” was no excuse for reckless driving.
“It’s astounding that some people are still willing to risk their lives, and the safety of others, by driving recklessly on Western Australia roads,” he said.
“Driving a high-performance vehicle doesn’t excuse you from any traffic laws.
“It’s not worth driving in a reckless manner at the risk of incurring a speeding infringement or, at worse, costing your life or the life of another person.”
Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner added “speed is the biggest killer on our roads”.
“It’s simple physics, the faster you are going the more likely you are to crash, and if you do crash, the faster you are going the more likely you are to be killed or seriously injured or kill or seriously injure someone else,” he said.
All three vehicles have been impounded, and a 34-year-old man from Bullsbrook has been charged with one count of reckless driving.
A 23-year-old Sorrento man has been charged with one count of reckless driving exceed speed limit by 45km/h or more on a length of road and one count of no authority to drive.
Both men are set to appear at the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Another 34-year-old man from Ocean Reef was charged with one count of reckless driving and is expected to appear before Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday.
