Pokemon Go Players Call Shenanigans as Another Raid Day Seems Like a Fail for Niantic and the Players

There’s no doubt that trainers were eagerly waiting for the return of Mega Rayquaza as part of Pokemon Go‘s Shared Skies season. However, for some reason, Niantic decided to bring back the legendary Pokemon as part of Elite Raids, which proved to be a nightmare for everyone.

To make it up to the community, Niantic decided to hold another round of Mega Rayquaza raids during the Pokemon Go adventure week. While the event proved to be relatively better than the previous one, it still had problems, which made players uninstall the game outright.

Niantic Continues to Disappoint With Pokemon Go Raids

Mega Rayquaza returned to Raid Battles in Pokemon Go on August 3, 2024. Described as a “makeup event” for the entire community, it was an incredible opportunity for the players to get their hands on the strongest Pokemon of the game. Unlike the previous season’s horrendous event, this one was more accessible.

However, on Pokemon Go‘s official subreddit, multiple trainers have expressed their disappointment over the makeup event. One of the biggest complaints among trainers is that Rayquaza’s catch rate was terrible.

Even after throwing multiple golden razz berries and excellent throws, they weren’t able to catch the legendary Pokemon.

What’s even worse is the fact that even after hundreds of raids, some players didn’t encounter a single shiny Rayquaza. It seems like, unlike previous raid days, Niantic didn’t boost the catch rate and shiny odds for Rayquaza, which seems quite odd considering the fact it was a makeup event.

If Niantic is trying to win back player trust and boost the game to even new audiences, it needs to plan such events carefully. If the developers handled the event in a better man, boosted shiny rates, and even catch rates, players would’ve grinded the raids even more.

A beast like Rayquaza, which can essentially change how you approach Pokemon Go raids and PvE, doesn’t deserve to be gatekept like this. Let’s hope that next year, Niantic learns from its mistakes and gives players what they want.

Niantic Needs To Give Pokemon Go Players They Want

While it’s great to see Niantic is finally acknowledging their mistakes and giving us makeup events, bonuses, and much more, the community’s perception of the developers hasn’t really changed. In the last couple of months, we’ve seen the community outrage growing, with many stating they don’t want to invest time or drop money into the game.

This strong sentiment is particularly shared among the long-term players of the game. Niantic has constantly shattered player expectations and aimed for profits instead of giving players what they want.

If the studio wants Pokemon Go to return to its glory days, they must bring crucial changes, such as removing the Remote Raid Pass limit and bringing a significant overhaul to PvP and gameplay features.
