Paris Olympics 2024: French athlete Alice Finot proposes to boyfriend after strong steeplechase performance
Competing at the Olympics in a packed stadium full of home-nation fans is pressure enough for French athletes in Paris.
But one local steeplechase star decided to make the moment even bigger by proposing to her partner in the immediate aftermath of her race.

Alice Finot finished fourth in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final, narrowly missing the podium with her time of 8:58.67, before turning her attention to even more important things.
After embracing her partner – Spanish triathlete Bruno Martinez Bargiela – in the front row of the Stade de France bleachers, Finot got down on one knee to pop the question.

To the delight of the crowd, she got a positive answer to make her Games campaign even more unforgettable.
“I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose,” she said.

“I don’t like doing things like everyone else.
“Since he hadn’t done it yet, I thought maybe it was up to me.”
