Starfield Managed to Miss One Sci-Fi Trope, and It’s Something That Actually Would Make Sense In-Universe

Starfield’s upcoming DLC is set to bring new content, including a fresh storyline and new locations. While players will get to explore the House Va’ruun faction in the forthcoming DLC, one sci-fi trope remains absent, which could have been a pleasant surprise for everyone if added.

A city in clouds is a cliche that isn’t hard to imagine in the world of Starfield. Furthermore, given the early criticism of the game for its linear expanding world, adding a city in clouds could bring a different flavour and perhaps entice more players to play the game.

Within Starfield’s setting, humanity has spread across multiple star systems with different environments. When you consider this, it’s surprising that the game doesn’t have a single planet or ecosystem where a civilization isn’t present on clouds.

Since technology is as advanced as possible, Bethesda should have considered adding a city in the clouds. This sentiment is also shared by many fans, as shown by Reddit user u/Straight_Tip7975.

Another user stated that seeing a city in clouds would be “cool” or even getting just a floating outpost would garner some attention.

Adding such a settlement not only gives players something new to try but also expands the storyline.

Some fans have even expressed their disappointment with every Starfield city so far, calling them “flat and boring.” Although Starfield planets have different environments, they feel very linear and are tiny, which eliminates the whole concept of exploration.

While we might not get to see the city in clouds in Starfield, there is plenty to look forward to with the upcoming Shattered Space DLC. The games have been stagnant for a while, and the DLC is arriving with much-needed new content.

As mentioned before, the DLC is going to put the spotlight on the House Va’ruun faction, which was less explored in the base game. The lore is expanding, and we will likely go against a cult that worships the alleged serpent god.

The exact release date for the DLC hasn’t been revealed yet, but according to leaks, it will be somewhere in September. If the leaks are to be believed, we will also see a trailer dropping for the DLC on August 20.

What are your thoughts on a potential city in cloud addition? Do you think Bethesda should consider introducing it? Will the upcoming DLC kickstart the redemption arc for the game? Let us know in the comments below.
