E-Day Would Have to Retcon 1 Major Part of the Gears Lore, But the Game Can Only Finish in 1 Way to Ensure It’s Memorable

Gears of War: E-Day has set everyone’s expectations high by promising to explore Emergence Day’s chaos while potentially reshaping key elements of the Gears lore. While little is known about what players will experience in the storyline, there is certainly a buzz about who will be the main antagonist.

There are several possibilities regarding the potential villain of the upcoming game. Since the storyline will take place just at the beginning of E-Day, The Coalition has a blank canvas on their hands. However, it might be better to focus on the overwhelming threat of the Locust Horde itself rather than introducing a single primary antagonist.

Shaping the Villain Dynamics in Gears of War: E-Day

One of the key aspects of the original Gears of War lore is how the human race initially reacts to the Locust Horde’s emergence. In earlier games, much of this event is depicted through flashbacks, and we don’t really get to see the full picture.

Of course, there are major villains in the prior games that players usually take on at the end; however, Gears of War: E-Day might benefit from focusing less on a singular villain and more on the overwhelming and relentless threat of the Locust Horde as a collective force.

As Reddit user u/Hveachie expressed, the upcoming game doesn’t really need a main antagonist. Instead, the main priority should be to introduce the Locust Horde and show them the doom that lies ahead. The user also stated that the ending should be similar to the final battle in BioShock 2.

An ending in which the game’s main characters go against a full army of the Locust Horde will mark the beginning of a new series, establishing that this is just the beginning and major troubles lie ahead. This also means the mighty “Hammer of Dawn” weapon, which is used to kill the final bosses in the prior Gears games, won’t be needed.

The past few Gears games from The Coalition haven’t been able to capture the essence of horror and brutality that made the earlier games stand out. It’s no surprise that fans expect the upcoming game to return to its roots and deliver a menacing experience full of horror and thrill.

It’s already been confirmed by The Coilation that Locust will be no less than a nightmare in the upcoming game, so we can expect full tingles while playing the game. Furthermore, there is a demand for the return of brutal deaths, something which the franchise was earlier known for.

With the upcoming game, The Coalition is looking to kickstart a new series focusing on the timeline prior to the first Gears game. As of now, we don’t know much about the game; however, from the little teaser we got to see on Xbox Showcase Day, we are looking at gritty and intense gameplay.

Who do you want to see as the potential villain in Gears of War: E-Day? Should the Coalition focus on a single antagonist or the entire Locus Horde? Let us know in the comments below.
