ACT Police release CCTV of wild arson bungle in Gungahlin
Remarkable CCTV footage has captured the moment a criminal unintentionally set himself on fire during a bungled arson attack on a barber shop.
The video, released by the ACT Police on Monday, shows a person wearing a motorcycle helmet and face mask pouring petrol over the Gold Blade barbers in Canberra’s outer north about 11.40pm on July 6.
The person then lights what appears to be a petrol-sodden cloth but the cloth catches fire and quickly erupts to engulf their body.
They run, flaming, out of the shop and roll around on the concrete pavement to put out the flames.

The arsonist and one other then hop on pushbikes and ride away as the fire burns inside the building.
ACT Police said they were still looking for the perpetrators of the attack.
“One of these people proceeds to smash the glass front door to the premises with a hammer, before the other enters through the shattered glass with a red jerry can which is then used to douse the premises with accelerant,” the police said.

“This person then ignites the accelerant, setting themselves alight in the process, before being extinguished with the assistance of the other person.
“The pair then flee the scene on the push bikes in the direction of Hinder Street.
“Police would like to speak to anyone who can identify the offenders from the CCTV footage, or who may have information in relation to the incident.”
