Aussie trio in the Liv Golf title mix at Greenbrier

Australians Lucas Herbert, Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman are all right in title contention entering the final round of the LIV Golf Greenbrier event.

But former world No.1 Jon Rahm is the player they are all chasing after he finished eagle-birdie-birdie for an eight-under 62 on Saturday to take a two-shot lead at 14-under 126.

The Old White course at the West Virginia resort was as vulnerable as ever – only six players in the 54-man field were over par through two rounds – and it led to a bunched leaderboard.

Nine players were separated by three shots going into the final round at the Greenbrier.

Herbert had a 63 and was tied second with Brooks Koepka (64), Talor Gooch (66), and 51-year-old Richard Bland (64).

Smith had two bogeys in his round of 63 and led a large contingent of players, including Leishman, who were three shots out of the lead, while fellow Australian Matt Jones was a further three shots back.

The Australians’ Ripper GC were leading the team competition by one shot from Koepka’s Smash GC team.

Rahm is coming off an Olympic disappointment when he went from a four-shot lead to not even getting to the podium.

The Spaniard will be going for his second straight LIV Golf title on Sunday after going all season without one.

Bryson DeChambeau, who shot 58 in the final round last year to win, had a 65 and was seven shots behind Rahm.
