Dutch Bros and Jersey Mike’s set to open combined location in SLO County. Here’s where

Two popular chain restaurants are opening new locations in the same vacant building in Atascadero.

City spokesperson Terrie Banish confirmed Tuesday that Dutch Bros Coffee and Jersey Mike’s Subs are expected in the coming months to open at the site of the former Burger King building at 8304 El Camino Real.

The burger chain abruptly closed its sole Atascadero location in June, leaving the space vacant.

Banish said it will likely take about six months for the new tenants to complete improvements before they can open.

On Tuesday, the building was fenced off and construction work appeared to be ongoing. A permit for interior demolition was issued for the building in June; Dutch Bros Coffee applied for a city permit for major tenant improvements at that address in July.

“This should go fairly quickly like it did with Sonic,” Banish said, noting the newest additions to Atascadero’s fast-food scene.

On Tuesday, a Dutch Bros spokesperson confirmed the eclectic coffee chain was in the very early stages” of opening a new spot in the North County city.

Because it is still early in the process, the spokesperson said the company was not releasing any other information at this time.

Dutch Bros has more than 900 locations across the United States.

The coffeehouse chain is known for an eclectic mix of coffee, energy drinks, smoothies and other drinks, all served by an energetic crop of “broistas” — usually young, smiling workers who bop along to blaring music as they deliver drinks.
