“Xbox held back an entire generation” The Series S Is Now Getting Blamed For Holding Back Gaming As a Whole

The Xbox Series S is probably the most controversial addition to the ninth generation of consoles. There have been several complaints from various developers regarding game launches on Xbox being a pain.

Now, it is another day and another complaint from an industry professional who blames the Series S for developers’ woes. Furthermore, many in the community feel that the Series S is holding back the entire generation.

The Series S is significantly less powerful than its big brother, the Series X. Because of that various game developers, in the past, omitted certain features, like the lack of split-screen in Baldur’s Gate 3 on the Series S. Some other studios like Black Myth Wukong fame Game Science have skipped the entire Xbox Series ecosystem for the time being.

This is because the direction from Phil Spencer‘s team seems clear, ‘if you can’t bring it to both consoles, you can’t bring it to either‘. Now, another industry professional has come out to talk about how optimizing games for the console is such a hassle for developers:

Reacting to the tweet, however, the original poster clarified that though they are from the industry, they had nothing to do with optimizing Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League for Microsoft’s Starter console:

Regardless, Del Walker was the one who made the tweet and expressed his thoughts on the subpar console from Phil Spencer’s team. His comments sparked outrage against the console in the video game community.

It is often argued that optimizing current-gen titles for eighth-gen consoles holds back the generation. That is because previous generation consoles do not have the firepower to run modern games.

However, some titles games are still being released for the eighth and ninth gen simultaneously for more revenue, and current-gen gamers seem to hate it. Series S seems to have had the same effect but only to a greater extent.

This is because it is meant to be a ninth-generation console but doesn’t possess the required hardware capability. Hence, the outrage from gamers against the console.

The console provided a foot in the door to gamers who couldn’t afford to pay full price for ‘true’ next-gen consoles but made life worse for the developers. What are your thoughts on Microsoft’s console? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
