God of War DLC Has Started a Heated Debate That Only the Next Saga of Kratos Can Settle

Kratos’ character arc has been one of the longest in gaming. From a mere Spartan warrior to God of War to now allegedly God of Hope. God of War Ragnarok’s DLC Valhalla elaborates on the same as Kratos goes through a cathartic process of self-reflection and confronts his arrogant past.

This has sparked a debate on the internet regarding where Kratos currently stands and what he is becoming. However, this can only be answered in the next saga of Kratos, as he is still the God of War for now.

Krataos has seen some of the most drastic character shifts. He is one of the most popular fictional characters who does not seem to lose his relevance anytime soon.

God of War Valhalla marked the beginning of a new era for Kratos, with people believing that he might be transforming into a God of Hope.

Young Kratos from the older games was perceived as an arrogant, mighty, and selfish God of War who killed Zeus in the name of revenge, an event that shaped him in ways unimaginable for a mortal to even fathom. This event occurred in the second game of the series, which set Kratos on a journey of endless deaths and hatred, making him more miserable with each adventure he took.

Kratos lost all he had earned and lost it too in the most brutal way imaginable. His family was destroyed, his brother killed, his wife dead, and his little daughter too fell victim to the fate of being a God of War’s daughter. Despite defeating Zeus and Aries, the mighty gods, he could not still do anything to save his family.

Things changed in 2019’s God of War, where we saw Kratos as an old man who had abandoned the old ways and had moved to the realm of giants with his son after the death of his wife. He had put away the chains of chaos, never to see them again until he was yet again forced to put them on to fight for his family, only this time he wished to succeed.

Kratos’s Character Might Be Nearing Its End

Kratos has come full circle now; he has reflected, redeemed, and reprimanded upon his previous actions. God of War Ragnarok saw an even more nuanced version of the character than seen in the 2019 title. However, it is still not certain what the future holds for him.

Whether Kratos will become God of Hope from God of War is hard to say, as he merely reflects on the same in the DLC. However, his actions in the previous two games have made one thing certain: that he does not crave living the life of a god anymore.

There is a huge chance that he might walk away from the title of being a God altogether; however, it is highly unlikely that we would be able to do so since he is bound to the doomed fate of being a God for eternity.
