Far Cry 4 Almost Had a Fully Fleshed Out Secret Ending and Thank the Heavens it Never Happened for a Good Reason

Far Cry 4 has the most interesting narrative, with all the characters being equally grey, blurring the lines between ultimate good and ultimate bad. The game features the most realistic portrayal of the enemy than any other Far Cry game.

Pagan Min is the final boss in the game; he is responsible for the chaos in the upper Himalayan region where the game is set. Far Cry 4 is also the most beautiful Far Cry game till date. It is set amidst the mighty Himalayas with the rural and culturally rich architecture of Nepal.

Far Cry 4’s Secret Ending That Could Not Materialize

Far Cry 4 follows the story of Ajay, who has come back to his mother’s native land to scatter her ashes in a place beloved to her the most. Things begin to get out of control when his vehicle is attacked by Pagan Min and he is taken captive along with his mother’s ashes.

He escapes the confines of Pagan Min’s castle and wanders into lands unknown, only to find his late mother’s village hidden amidst the jungle. There begins his journey of avenging his mother’s native land and freeing it from the shackles of Pagan Min and, by extension, fulfilling his mother’s mission of liberating her native land.

As the story progresses, both sides of the story unfold in front of our eyes as we begin to see that neither side is good. One party wants to liberate the village for their personal gains, while the other wants to hold on to it for theirs.

However, towards the end, we get to know about the romantic journey of Pagan Min and Ajay’s mother, which humanises him a little, and we are given the option to end his life or let him go after defeating him in battle. This is where the game ends.

This was not the case from the start, as before Ubisoft had other things in mind for the ending. In the original design of the game, you could decide that the rebels are as bad as Pagan Min, which would give you an option to work for him instead, but it could never materialize, thanks heaven.

Too Many Choices Would Have Ruined The Game

If this secret ending had materialized, then the lines between good and bad would have further blurred to the point of chaos. The narrative would have broken, leaving little to no emotional attachment to the main story.

Whatever happens, happens for the best and the secret ending not being able to materialize is the best example of it. The game still stands strong as one of the finest from the franchise, and it is largely due to the engaging and highly emotional narrative structure along with broken humanised characters.

The choices that were given in the game were enough to take the game into many directions. The open world was also very engaging. It is good that we did not get the option of playing for Min since that would have neglected the personal journey of the protagonist.
