Insomniac Cannot Ride the Bandwagon for Spider-Man 3 That Will Absolutely Devastate Fans for the Wrong Reasons

With its Spider-Man games, Insomniac has raised the bar for superhero video games to infinity. It delivers one of the best narratives, visuals, and top-tier web-swinging mechanics that feel unbelievably comic-accurate.

As a result, fans are eagerly anticipating the next chapter, hoping for an even more thrilling experience in Spider-Man 3. However, there’s one scenario that fans dread more than anything: a looming fear about two particular plot decisions that could devastate players and possibly even overshadow the game’s success.

People just can’t bear to wish to bid Peter’s Spider-Man a farewell in Spider-Man 3

When it comes to the next game in this series, there are two things that all fans have on their minds. Firstly, it’s a showdown between Peter Parker and Norman Osborn, now fully transformed into the Green Goblin.

After witnessing the epic battle against Venom in the second game, players want the next major confrontation to focus solely on Peter and his arch-nemesis, Norman.

The main concern here is that Insomniac might expand the story into a large-scale battle, possibly incorporating Miles Morales, Wraith, or even Silk to take on Osborn’s potential army of goblins—a scenario reminiscent of the comics’ storyline.

But, while multiple Spider-allies fighting back a goblin army might seem like an epic, action-packed event, fans fear that it would detract from the emotional weight of Peter’s personal rivalry with Norman. Osborne has been our hero’s arch-nemesis since the very beginning.

Players want the final battle to be intimate, centered on Peter, not divided among multiple heroes. Miles, Silk, and others can have their moments, perhaps facing separate villains like Doctor Octavius in their own respective 1 on 1 showdown. So, when it comes to Green Goblin, fans are clear: it needs to be a Peter vs. Norman, one-on-one, no-holds-barred type of match.

But there’s also the second thing that we’re yet to talk about: there is a growing concern within the community surrounding the possibility of Insomniac ending Peter Parker’s story in Spider-Man 3 by killing him off.

Now, while fans have embraced Miles Morales, with his own set of powers and unique personality along with all the other heroes, Peter Parker is still seen as THE core Spider-Man.

Miles may be great, but no one can genuinely fill Peter’s shoes. So, killing him off would leave a void that not many people would be willing to accept or forgive Insomniac for.

Though with how hard the studio has been carrying PlayStation lately on its shoulders with this series, there’s very little chance that it’ll take such a drastic step with the third game at this point. As again, for most people, a Spider-Man game without Peter would lose the emotional connection that made the series so special.

Spider-Man 3 is still a ways off for now, and a lot can change in development

Now, let’s set the tinfoil-hat-speculations aside for a moment and get one thing out of the way first – the next game in this franchise is still in the very early stages of its production. During this period, a lot can change with the game. What we’re speculating on are just leaks that, unfortunately, Insomniac wasn’t able to hold in.

Let us also not forget that the developers are probably hard at work on other projects for now, including a possible DLC to the second game, the Wolverine game, the spin-off related to Venom, and, of course, the next Ratchet and Clank game. That’s a lot of pre-production time for the team to really flesh out the third game in the series.

Plus, there’s really no reason not to trust Insomniac. Given their stellar track record, there’s little doubt that the team won’t do justice to Peter and Miles’ story.

They’ve already got all the tools and groundwork laid by Spider-Man 3’s predecessors. With the right decisions and just sticking the landing, we’ll most likely have a worthy conclusion to the trilogy that people would probably even upgrade their consoles for.

But with that said, what are your thoughts on a potential third game? What other things would you like to see in the game? Let us know in the comments below!
