7 of the Best Weapons in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

With the coming of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster comes the inevitable question of the best weapons in the game to take down your adversaries, both alive and dead. Capcom is once again letting the player loose in a zombie-infested mall to not only survive but also defeat a world-ending plan.

Frank West will enter a shopping mall in Willamette, Colorado, unaware that he’s going to be leaving only after racking a large bill of bodies. To help him do this, he’ll need the help of various tools, and Capcom has been generous enough to include some of the best weapons in Dead Rising in the remaster.

7. Shopping Cart

What might appear to be a humble grocery collection tool can become a lethal weapon in the hands of the right journalist. Think of how kids in supermarkets play with these metal cages on wheels, barreling down the aisles with reckless abandon. Now imagine the person behind the cart isn’t a kid but an adult with proportionate strength.

The shopping cart can become an absolute beast when it comes to knocking back zombies and racking up the kill count. As long as you have a fairly clear path ahead of you, you can maintain your speed and keep knocking over and taking down zombies with ease. There is a shopping cart also equipped with weapons, but you can find the regular kinds strewn around the mall in Dead Rising.

6. Mannequin Torso

Zombies may not attack the fake human bodies in malls, but the same can’t be said vice versa. While it may seem unwieldy, the Mannequin Torso quickly became a fan favorite in the original title, and we assume things will be much the same in the Dead Rising remaster. Knowing how to use some of the more simpler items can be the difference between success and failure in games!

You will find this weapon right after completing the tutorial and exiting the Safe Room. Once you leave this room via the vent and proceed down the elevator, there will be a number of Mannequins lying on the ground.

You can take down the undead with a single hit using this weapon, and it also features a surprising amount of knockback. The Mannequin will break after a few uses, and then you can pick up the Torso to continue the carnage.

5. Submachine Gun

Guns in the mall? You bet your undead-beating rear there are guns in this mall. The best part is that the submachine gun, one of the best armaments in the title, can be acquired pretty early.

While ammo is not as easy to come across in the first half of the game, you’ll be spilling brass from your pockets during the latter half. The Dead Rising Submachine Gun will require a bit of platforming to acquire, but it’s worth the effort.

You’ll want to go back to the steps leading to the second floor of Paradise Plaza, and you’ll spot a blue awning to the right. This will look to be out of reach, but you can land on it by jumping onto the railing of the steps and then landing on the awning below.

Walk along the awning, and you’ll find the Submachine Gun at the end. This area is a permanent spawn point, so you can come back and grab another after emptying the clip!

4. Katana

It wouldn’t be a zombie-killing game without some sort of large blade, and the Dead Rising Remaster offers one of the flashiest. This weapon is great at taking down both the undead and Psychopaths, making it a must-have item in your arsenal. Getting it is even easier than the Submachine Gun!

Head over to Colombian Roastmasters, but you’re not here for the java chip frappe. Instead, head over to the location of the orange juice and look over the railing beside it. You’ll spot the Katan lying on the orange awning below. Just like the Submachine Gun, this is a permanent spawn point for the Katana, so come back anytime yours breaks from use.

3. Shotgun

Another staple in the armory of those who fight the undead, the Shotgun will place tremendous firepower in your hands. As it has a wide cone of effect, each shot can help clear away multiple zombies and create some breathing room, allowing you to get off a heal or move to a more strategic location, so as not to get swarmed by hordes like in Space Marine 2.

The Shotgun can be found as a permanent spawn in the Hunting Shack in the North Plaza, but be wary when approaching this shop. The survivors inside have guns and are not the most welcoming bunch. When you do manage to get your hands on a boomstick, you can be sure everything in its path is getting blown away, and it’s one of the better ranged damage dealers against Psychopaths.

2. Sledgehammer

Sometimes, the simplest methods are often the best. Sledgehammers in Dead Rising function in a similar way to other games: big bonks for big damage. Much like the Mannequin Torso, this weapon can take down any zombie or survivor with a single head-shattering hit to the noggin.

Sledgehammers can be found in a variety of locations around the mall, with the most assured spawns in hardware stores such as Crislip’s Home Saloon and McHandy’s Hardware. They can also be found in the Warehouse, Maintenance Tunnel, and Meat Processing Area. The only downside to this weapon would be the slow windup time to land a single attack, as compared to other melee weapons.

1. Chainsaw

Finally, we come to the gasoline-chugging, chain-blade revving, zombie-slicing cream of the crop of weapons in Dead Rising: the chainsaw. Easily considered the best weapon in the game, the Chainsaw will make short work of anything in your way, be they zombies, Psychopaths, or Survivors.

Similar to the sledgehammer, the Chainsaw can be found in hardware stores and is perfect for those who want to quickly mow down their foes. However, there are some drawbacks to be aware of before you go swinging this around.

Firstly, you can’t store this weapon in your pockets, thus requiring you to always carry it around. You will also drop it every time you get hit, and the animation to kickstart the weapon is pretty long, leaving you open to hits. But, once it’s running, you’re a force to be reckoned with.

The chainsaw can turn a zombie into a pink mist with a single swing, and it even makes short work of Psychopaths. If you could complete the game using only one weapon, the Chainsaw should definitely be your pick.
