Left with ‘no choice,’ a popular restaurant has closed near this busy Boise intersection
A longtime breakfast destination near a busy Boise intersection has gone dark.
Huck House Brunchette, 7135 W. State St. in Garden City, closed Sunday. Opened in 2021, the family-owned Idaho restaurant specialized in breakfast, coffee and what it called “adulting” — mimosas and bloody marys.
“Like many small businesses and independent restaurants, we have faced challenging circumstances that have left us no choice but to close,” a note posted on the door explained.
Located near the intersection of Glenwood and State streets, Huck House was the first of three Brunchette restaurants started by owner Boomer Godsill. Blue Bench Brunchette continues to operate in Boise at 4218 W. Overland Road, and Brunchette on the Lake is in McCall.
Serving heaping plates, Huck House strived to deliver a more gourmet-influenced experience than family-style breakfast joints. It racked up more than 850 Google reviews during its three-year run, scoring 4.1 out of 5.0 stars. Like most breakfast restaurants, Huck House was most popular on weekends.
With a flair for gourmet-style dishes, Brunchette restaurants still operate in Boise and McCall.
“We visited on Labor Day when it was packed,” a Google reviewer wrote two weeks ago.
“Great portions,” another wrote recently, “even though prices are higher, like everywhere. I suggest their Benedicts. Huge.”
Godsill did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. But the note on the door shared the news with “a heavy heart.” And a nod to the past. Before Huck House Brunchette replaced it, Sunrise Cafe had been in that building for decades.
“As the current owner, I hold countless fond memories of working alongside my grandfather and father at this location,” Godsill wrote. “I’ve witnessed the highs and lows over the years, formed lasting friendships and worked with an incredible team of coworkers. I will forever cherish those memories.”
The parking lot was empty and the restaurant was closed Monday morning. A note on the door explains that the situation is permanent.
