Arkansas State Police say Des Arc family argument ends in deadly shooting

DES ARC, Ark. – Arkansas State Police are investigating a deadly weekend shooting that authorities said started as a multi-generational family argument.

Officers with the Des Arc Police Department responded with reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Chester Street late Saturday afternoon.

Police said witnesses told them an argument started between a man and his mother that became physical. Investigators said the man’s adult son attempted to intervene, and in the process shot his father. The man died as a result of the shooting.

Authorities said the son called 911 and told dispatchers what happened. The Des Arc officers said the son surrendered without incident.

Agents with the ASP Criminal Investigation Division were called to assist the Des Arc Police Department in the investigation. Findings from the investigation will be submitted to the local prosecutor, who will make the decision about pursuing criminal charges.
