How to Unlock Secret Weapons

The release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster has thrown gamers for a nostalgic loop as they once again explore the zombie-infested shopping mall in Willamette, Colorado. Taking on the role of the photographic journalist Frank West, it’s up to the player to not only survive but thwart a world-ending plan.

Left to his own devices, Frank must improvise using the many things found inside the mall to take on the undead hordes. While some weapons are more unconventional than others, there are a few that aren’t just lying around on the ground waiting to be picked up, so if you’re hoping to unlock the two unique weapons that are a direct reference to another of Capcom’s major franchises,.

There aren’t many advantageous places to be stuck during a zombie apocalypse, but a shopping mall is definitely one of the better ones. Not only do you have various food items at hand, but you can also use practically anything in the mall as a weapon. That’s exactly what you can do in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, and now you’ll be able to do it with even more gory graphics.

Several weapons can be used in the mall, from the torso of display mannequins to getting your hands on a usable Katana! However, not all weapons in the game can be found strewn about the shopping complex. There are two from the original Dead Rising that have made a return in the remaster, and there might be even more that remain to be found. Getting the unlockable weapons in the game isn’t easy, but they are well worth the effort!

Real Mega Buster

Fans of the Mega Man franchise were pleasantly surprised to see the Mega Buster make its way into the game. Now, you can find the less lethal variant in Colby’s Toy Shop, but the ease of access indicates it’s not the most damage-dealing choice in the game. The regular variant just shoots 30 yellow tennis balls that can stagger the enemy with each shot.

However, the Real Mega Buster breaks the damage meter. It’s one of the most dangerous among the Dead Rising weapons, able to take down multiple zombies with a single shot. The kicker is that the weapon can also be charged for a greater shot, making it more effective than even the shotgun you can find in the weapon store in the mall.

However, to get the Real Mega Buster in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, you need to become a real pro at the game. The weapon can only be unlocked by killing 53,594 zombies and completing the Zombie Genocider challenge in a single playthrough, witnessing any one of the endings, and then saving at the prompt.

The Real Mega Buster comes with 300 shots, and even the toughest Psychopaths can be taken down with six or fewer shots from this hand cannon. There are some quirks with this weapon, such as Adam the Clown being able to block some damage from the weapon or that shots don’t affect zombies wearing hard hats when aimed at the head.

However, it’s still a weapon you should try and get when completing Dead Rising, as the ability to charge a shot and obliterate a wide cone in front of you is always satisfying.

Laser Sword

Another reference to the Mega Man series, the Laser Sword is right up there with the Real Mega Buster as one of the most lethal weapons in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. You can find the toy likeness of the same in the various child-focused play areas and toy shops. The sword also complements the Buster as both have 300 uses before they are dropped from the inventory.

The sword can be acquired by completing five days in Infinity mode, thus acquiring the 5-Day Survivor achievement/trophy. Once Frank completes the five days (which come up to 10 hours in real-time), he can head to the Security Room and grab the Laser Sword at the start of Day 6.

To make sure the Laser Sword sticks around for other game modes, die and then save the game. Quitting the game or turning off your console after getting the sword will have it erased from the game.

Some would argue that the Laser Sword is even better than the Real Mega Buster when it comes to pure damage. It’s able to take out even the toughest Psychopaths with just a couple of swings. It has a similar move set as the Katana but with a much wider range. Holding down the attack button also extends this range with a forward stab attack.

If you use the Double Lariat skill with this weapon equipped, hold down the left analog stick and press the attack button. This will cause the Dead Rising Laser Sword to grow to a massive 10-15 feet in length. Frank will swing the sword in wide circles, taking out enemies in a wide arc. Just be sure to head over and pick it up once the skill ends, as Frank will toss it away.
