WA’s Great Southern plunged into darkness as Telstra outage impacts emergency calls

A Telstra outage is affecting triple-0 calls in the State’s Great Southern region.

Police say a mobile phone outage between Katanning and Esperance — a distance of about 460km — could be impacting calls to emergency services along WA’s south coast.

“Calls to triple-0 on the Telstra network will automatically leverage alternative carriers if available,” a WA Police spokesperson said.

NBN and fixed-line services are believed to be operating normally, as Telstra is working on restoring the network.

“It’s important to stay aware of your surroundings and check on vulnerable neighbours if possible,” a police spokesperson said.

“If you have a satellite phone, ensure it is with you at all times.”
