Dino Crisis and Legacy of Kain coming to PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue

Dino Crisis and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain are coming to the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue.

Announced during Sony‘s September State of Play presentation, both games will be joining Sony’s higher tier of monthly subscription service in the coming months.

Dino Crisis artwork appeared on the PlayStation Network two years ago, at which point it was thought that the game was scheduled to arrive on the PS Plus service, but that didn’t materialise until now.

No date was given for when the games will be added.

Series creator Shinji Mikami said recently that he was surprised to hear that fans want more Dino Crisis games.

“The awesomeness of dinosaurs and the stuff you can do with dinosaurs, that’s been kind of really nailed down by Monster Hunter in recent years,” he said.

Mikami went on to say that he wasn’t sure there was room for the series while Capcom‘s Monster Hunter franchise remains so popular.

Alongside Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain being added to PlayStation Plus, it was announced that Legacy of Kain and its sequel will receive a remastered collection.

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will be released on December 10 for PS5 and PS4.

The Legacy of Kain series has continued to enjoy a cult following, despite laying dormant for more than two decades. The original entry, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, was developed by Silicon Knights under the direction of Denis Dyack and published by Crystal Dynamics in 1996.

Follow-up Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver arrived in 1999, developed by Crystal Dynamics and directed by Amy Hennig, who went on to write and direct Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series.

The 3D action-adventure sequel, in which players assume the role of vampire Raziel on a revenge mission to destroy his creator Kain, was critically acclaimed and received several follow-ups, with 2003’s Legacy of Kain: Defiance the most recent entry in the series.

In 2022 Crystal Dynamics said it received an overwhelming response to a survey designed to gauge interest in a potential Legacy of Kain revival.
