Ireland spun out in the desert for 119 by Afghanistan

Ireland have been bowled out for 119 earning Afghanistan a 2-0 series victory with a convincing 117-run win in the third one-day international in Sharjah.

Mohammad Nabi took five wickets for 17 runs and fellow spinner Nangeyalia Kharote 4-30 on debut as Ireland wilted in pursuit of their 237-run target.

Ireland seemed on course as captain Paul Stirling (50) and Curtis Campher (43) put on 73 for the second wicket but they were the only players to reach double figures as the spinners took control.

The final eight wickets fell for 26 runs as Ireland were dismissed in 35 overs.

Afghanistan posted 9-236 after half-centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (51) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (69). Player of the match Nabi weighed in with 48.

Mark Adair was the pick of the Irish bowling with 3-51.

Afghanistan’s series victory provided some compensation for their loss in the one-off Test. The tour continues with a three-match T20 series, which begins on Friday.
