HBO’s The Last Of Us Season 2 Trailer Gives Us Our First Look At Abby

It’s The Last of Us Day, which is the day that the outbreak reached critical mass in the game’s narrative on September 26. What better way to celebrate than for HBO to release its first full trailer of Season 2 of the hit adaptation The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

“After five years of peace following the events of the first season,” the official show synopsis reads. “Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

Fans got the quickest of looks for the show with the teaser trailer including Catherine O’Hara’s character, Dina (Isabela Merced), and the Scars–also known as the Seraphites amongst themselves. The trailer here gives us our first look at Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) as Abby Anderson, Ellie’s main antagonist.

In the trailer, we see a lot of moments in the game from Ellie getting her guitar with Joel teaching her how to play. There’s also Ellie playing for Dina and glimpses of Jesse (Young Mazino) and the life in Jackson, the establishment survivors have made over the last five years. There are also scenes of various tense moments in the game such as going through the metro station and having to avoid an infected invasion.

Season 1 became a pop culture phenomenon with the series becoming the first live-action video game adaptation to receive major awards consideration. It was nominated for 24 Primetime Emmy Awards, with a leading eight wins at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including for actors Nick Offerman and Storm Reid for Guest Actors in a Drama Series.

The first game’s narrative was just enough for the entirety of Season 1, with some minor and major changes added along the way to spread it out. The Last of Us Part 2 is double the first game’s length and includes various subplots and time jumps back and forth. There’s so much material, showrunner Craig Mazin even thinks that just off of the sequel could generate two to three more seasons of the show.

Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us arrives in 2025.
