2024 GWM Ute price and specs: Towing capacity up, prices cut, lineup shrunk

The 2024 GWM Ute lineup has been tweaked, with prices largely down across the board compared to the start of August.

While GWM’s full-fat temporary price discounts for the Ute until September 30 have ended, the dual-cab remains between $2500 and $4000 less expensive than it was two months ago, as the brand looks to boost sales and clear stock.

There is one change to the range though, with the previously mid-spec Ute Cannon-X dropped from the lineup, which now consists of five variants.

GWM has also made a spec change to all Ute grades except for the Cannon-XSR, increasing the dual-cab lineup’s braked towing capacity from 3000kg to 3200kg.

This now gives it an edge over the LDV T60, though it’s not enough to match the 3500kg figure of more common rivals.

All GWM Ute pickup variants have also now been equipped with a tailgate lock.

Otherwise the range is unchanged, with bigger upgrades coming in the first half of 2025 with the addition of a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine to the lineup, capable of producing 15kW and 80Nm more than the current 2.0-litre.

It’ll also coincide with the Ute being renamed to the Cannon Ute.

Chinese updates to the Cannon Ute debuted in April 2023, though it’s yet to be confirmed whether we’ll see the new exterior and interior looks here.

As with the rest of the GWM range, the Ute is backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of roadside assistance.

There are five years of capped-price servicing, with the first service – due at six months or 5000km – costing $260.

Subsequent services are required at 12-month/10,000km intervals and cost $360 each.

Safety

All GWM Ute variants except for the Cannon CC and Cannon-XSR were awarded a five-star safety rating from ANCAP in November 2021.
