How to Remove Your Bounty

In Starfield, venturing into the vast reaches of space can sometimes land you in trouble with the law, and racking up a bounty is a consequence many players will face. Whether you’re accidentally caught in crossfire or engage in smuggling, there is always a chance a bounty will be put on your head.

Fortunately, dealing with a bounty is fairly straightforward in Starfield. However, it might cost you some in-game cash, and there is a chance that you spend the night in jail.

How to Pay and Remove a Bounty in Starfield

There is a self-serving bounty clearance kiosk in every faction area.

When a bounty is placed on your head in Starfield, the guards nearby or the enforcers of the area will rush in to arrest you. It is possible to evade the arrest, but in most cases, the more you resist, the more your bounty will increase.

Once you have a bounty, you can simply pay the required amount to clear it quickly. You can do so by going to a Bounty Clearance Kiosk and paying the required amount. Depending on your crime, the bounty can vary from 600 credits to 250,000 credits.

These Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosks are scattered throughout the galaxy. However, you can also build one by going to the Build Mode and then heading to the Miscellaneous tab. You will need 2x Beryllium, 2x Zero Wire, and 4x Aluminum to build the machine.

It’s worth highlighting that if you have a bounty placed by the faction you are associated with, you can’t clear it with the Kiosk in that area. Hence, you have to go to a Kiosk in the area of another faction to pay the fine.

When Does a Bounty Get Placed on You?

You can also go to prison if you don’t want to pay the bounty.

A bounty is placed on you in Starfield when you commit a crime. There are several activities that are considered illegal and can get you in trouble with the law enforcement of that area.

Some of the activities that are considered illegal in the game include attacking civilians, smuggling contraband and getting caught during a scan, stealing, or being spotted during the act of pickpocketing.

Paying the fine is not necessary if a bounty is placed on you. Instead, you can surrender to law enforcement and spend some time in jail. The time spent in jail will depend upon the severity of the crime committed. Keep in mind that if you do get arrested, any stolen item or contraband will be confiscated. Furthermore, there will be an XP penalty for getting arrested.

Did you run into trouble with the law and enforcement at any point in Bethesda’s Starfield? Is paying off the bounty better than spending some time in jail? Let us know in the comments below.
