How to Use Boost Packs

Boost Packs in Starfield are an essential tool for exploring the vast planets of the Settled Systems. You might recognize these as the jetpacks from Fallout, as they give players the ability to move vertically and horizontally across terrain.

They make navigating terrain a lot easier, especially if you don’t have a vehicle or would rather travel on foot. If you’re looking for ways to move faster or add a bit of extra mobility during combat, Boost Packs are your best friend.

In this Starfield guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about Boost Packs—how to use them, and how to upgrade them. Get ready to fly like an expert through Starfield’s boundless universe.

How to Use Boost Packs Starfield

Boost packs are easy to use and very useful.

To start using Boost Packs in Starfield, you’ll first need to unlock the Boost Pack Training skill in the Tech Skill Tree. Without this skill, you won’t be able to activate your Boost Pack. Here’s how the Boost Pack Training skill works:

Rank 1: Unlocks basic usage of Boost Packs. You can now use Boost Packs to perform a mid-air jump.

Rank 2: Boost Pack fuel consumption is reduced, allowing for longer use.

Rank 3: Boost fuel regenerates more quickly, letting you stay airborne for longer.

Rank 4: You get all previous benefits but doubled, meaning you can fly even further and faster.

Once you’ve allocated at least one skill point into Boost Pack Training (Rank 1), simply equip a Boost Pack.

You’ll get your first one very early on in the game, but there’s a lot more you can obtain—check out our Starfield guide on making money fast so that you’re prepared to buy any you come across.

After that, it’s as easy as jumping. Press the jump button while mid-air, and you’ll activate the Boost Pack’s thrusters. You can tap the jump button multiple times to extend your boost, but depending on the type of Boost Pack you have, this ability can be quite extensive or limited.

Boost Pack Types and Upgrades

It’s not necessary, but you can upgrade your Boost Pack skill tree.

There are four main types of Boost Packs in Starfield, each designed to offer a unique advantage depending on your playstyle. Here’s a breakdown of the different Boost Pack types.

The Basic Boost Pack is the most average of them all. It provides moderate vertical lift and doesn’t consume a ton of fuel.

The Balanced Boost Pack offers what the Basic Boost Pack does but with better fuel efficiency. While it’s not great for vertical traversal, it’s a solid choice for crossing horizontal distances.

The Power Boost Pack is packed with power, as the name suggests. This one will help you reach high places quickly but it drains fuel a lot faster.

The Skip Boost Pack is similar to the Power Pack but offers more thrusts since it consumes less fuel, but these are weaker.

Within these tiers, there are a ton of different Boost Packs you can find, some of them game-changing in their power and fuel efficiency.

If you’re looking to level up your Boost Pack game, there are two main methods: upgrading the Boost Pack Training skill (which we mentioned earlier) and finding upgraded Packs with better stats or modifications.

You can find upgraded Packs by visiting shopkeepers in major cities, exploring the open world, and grinding quests.

With that, you’re prepared to take on the Boost Pack side of things in Starfield. If there are any other Starfield guides you’d like to see, give us a shout in the comments below and we’d love to help you out!
