Kris Kristofferson: Legendary country singer and actor dies aged 88 at his home in Maui, Hawaii

World-renowned singer and actor Kris Kristofferson has reportedly died at the age of 88.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday at home.

“We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all,” his family said in a statement shared with People.

No cause of death has yet been given.

The singer-songwriter who won multiple Grammy awards also starred in films including the 1976 version of A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand.

Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a musical for A Star Is Born.

He also starred in the popular Blade franchise alongside Wesley Snipes, playing the role of Whistler.

Kristofferson had hits including Me and Bobby McGee, For The Good Times and Help Me Make It Through the Night during his 1970s.

In 1985 he joined fellow country music luminaries Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash to form the country music supergroup the Highwaymen, a group that released three successful studio albums.

Kristofferson’s death comes three and a half years after he announced his retirement, following what was to be his final concert in Florida in February 2020.

Kristofferson was a father to eight children and is survived by his third wife, Lisa Meyers, who he wed in 1983.
