Downtown Naples chef dies at 48; GoFundMe set up, service Wednesday
A funeral service is Wednesday for a Naples chef who died Sept. 27.
Dagoberto Rioseco Salas, 48, was a chef at Vergina Restaurant in downtown Naples.
Friends and family will honor his memory from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Naples Funeral Home 3107 Davis Blvd. His cause of death was not made public.
‘What a chef!’
Social media reacted across Southwest Florida on Monday.
“With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our beloved Executive Chef Dagoberto, who has left an indelible mark on the culinary scene in downtown for over a decade,” 5th Avenue South business association said on Facebook.
Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann commented on Facebook that she will have a moment of silence for Salas at the Wednesday City Council meeting.
What a Chef! His culinary abilities were unbelievable. He valued his customers and loved what he did. So very sad to hear this,” commented Carole Hoffman on the same post. “My heart cries for his family and loved ones.”
GoFundMe established for chef’s family
A GoFundMe was set up “to ensure Dagoberto’s family gets the help needed. Every dollar raised will go directly toward covering their needs.”
The goal is $20,000 with about $7,500 raised as of Monday night.
“Dago has always been the type of friend to help out anyone in need if it was within his capabilities,” the crowdfunding site said.
“Now, he needs our help more than ever. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and help Dago’s family. Even sharing this campaign can make a significant impact.
