Japanese PS5 Pro 30th-Anniversary Consoles Are Only Available To Actual Players

PlayStation’s 30-anniversary collection presale came and went, selling out within minutes, and this drove demand even higher. With the limited amount being only 12,300 units, some parts of the collection like controllers and PlayStation Portable have made their way to eBay with prices reaching wild amounts of money. There’s even a seller who, for $50,000, will personally drive it to you…once he gets his new car. Japan wants to be different though.

In response to the demand and wanting to strike down the number of scalpers, Sony has decided to restrict preorders to those who can prove they are previous PlayStation owners and played games for a minimum of 30 hours over the last 10 years.

If you’ve signed into a PS4 or PS5 console between February 22, 2014, and September 19, 2024 you’re in. Pre-orders are now open for the console on the Japanese PlayStation store, and those who want to buy one simply need to use a PlayStation Network login with a Sony account registered in Japan.

The pre-order for the console is open until the end of the day on October 14. There will be a lottery system in place to determine the next batch of buyers if there are more pre-orders than there are available consoles. The bundle is being sold for 168,980 yen, which is roughly $1,177.

The 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro is colored like the original PlayStation along with a matching gray DualSense Edge, a DualSense controller, and a DualSense Charging Station. It will also include a console cover for the disc drive–which is still sold separately–a vertical stand, a collectible poster from 30 possible designs, an “original PlayStation-style cable connector housing”, four PlayStation Shapes cable ties, a sticker, and a paperclip.

The PlayStation 5 Pro 30th-Anniversary collection arrives November 21.
